A self cleaning water bottle with it’s own water purifying system.. wait what? Are you for real?

I found this bottle on Amazon, produced by LARQ, who are claiming this is the first self cleaning water bottle. It was also on Shark Tank, which is pretty cool. It’s said to be:

  • non-toxic
  • mercury free
  • USB chargeable (up to a full month!)
  • 17 oz/ 500 ml
  • Cold for 24 hours
  • Hot for 12 hours
  • 6 colors: black, pink, blue, silver, gold, light blue

How Does It Work?

So how does it purify the water and clean? It uses a UV light which kills bacteria inside the water bottle. It cleans by itself every 2 hours and the filtration is activated with the touch of a button and filters the water within 60 seconds. Sounds pretty cool to me.

This self cleaning water bottle is a great option if you're worried about the germs in your bottle, or if you suck at regularly cleaning your water bottle. #waterbottle #fitness #workout

I was wondering what type of germs it kills and I found the following info. The UV light kills the germs listed below (according to a third party testing lab):

  • E. Coli
  • MRSA
  • Salmonella
  • Staph

It won’t work against heavy metals or chemicals, but can keep your water bottle and water germ free.

The company also offers a 1 year warranty on the water bottle, which is pretty nice. I do wonder how it will hold up against drops and impact though…

Reading through the comments, some people love it, other don’t believe that it can work the way it has claimed to.

I personally think this water bottle is a really cool idea and may possibly be able to help stop the spread of germs for people who forget to wash out their bottle frequently or who come into contact with a lot of these types of germs. But my verdict is still out on this product because most of the public water facilities clean the water to remove these germs before the water is put into the system for consumption…

Check it out here and tell me in the comments what you think about this water bottle.
